Solicitors operating in education 'may need additional PI' - PI for solicitors
11/05/2009
Written by Marc Riches
Solicitors wishing to provide legal advice in education disputes have been reminded of the need to obtain comprehensive Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance.
Writing in a Solicitors Journal article, Jenny Ramage points towards comments made by Nicholas Hancox, a sole practitioner and education specialist based in Norwich, who claims there is currently an issue as to the level of PI insurance that solicitors require.
He points that moves by the government to bring in all education-related legal work into a central procurement organisation and an overall tendency towards standardisation means such professionals may wish to consider obtaining additional cover.
"If you want to go for local authority work you need to get more insurance than you otherwise would need," claims Mr Hancox, adding that a minimum policy of £5 million is often demanded.
