Brokers remain the best option for access to Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance policies, it has been claimed.

In its UK Professional Indemnity Insurance analysis, industry insight firm Datamonitor suggests that direct access to policies via insurers remains complicated.

As such, the service suggests that consulting a broker may help to avoid unnecessary complications.

"The vast majority of business in the PI market is done through the broker channel because companies taking out cover often need to be examined on a case-by-case basis," the report states.

"Many in the market maintain that technological solutions or direct propositions cannot yet be successful in PI."

The report adds that the reliance on brokers by firms places them in a "central role" for the distribution of PI policies throughout the marketplace.
