Britons looking to sell their property should be aware of the professional indemnity (PI) protection available to them when arranging a home information pack (HIP), it has been claimed.
Mortgage Solutions reports that the Association of HIP Providers (Ahipp) is espousing the benefits of obtaining such a pack only from subscribers to the HIP Code, which protects both consumers and the industry.
Paul Broadhead, deputy director general at Ahipp, tells the publication: "It is baffling why anybody would source a HIP from a company who chooses not to meet the high standards that this industry is determined to set."
Among the requirements of the code is the need for sufficient PI coverage to be held in order to ensure the consumer is protected against any losses which could result from the preparation of the pack.
The code also obliges its subscribers to handle complaints effectively and fairly, as well as to be transparent about any fees which may be incurred by the client.
