Home workers 'need PI cover' - Professional Indemnity Insurance
28/04/2008
Those establishing a home-based business should hold the necessary protection, such as professional indemnity (PI) cover, it has been suggested.
Advisory service Bytestart notes that more than 60 per cent of new businesses in the UK are now based at home.
Such an option may be tempting to those who cannot afford the expense of renting office space, the service contends.
However, there are some areas where expenditure may be wise even if it is not compulsory - with PI cover highlighted as being among such issues for consideration.
"No matter what kind of business you operate, it makes a lot of sense to get public liability cover and PI insurance," Bytestart advises.
"For just a few pounds each month you are buying peace of mind."
This is by virtue of the fact that PI puts "someone on your side" to cover the costs of defending any claim which may arise.
